What this means is that your monitor cannot process the frequency range that
Xorg is trying to feed it.
Did you give up to a minute for Xorg to adjust?
It's a dynamically determined thing, Xorg tries to find the maximum your
hardware is comfortable with, basically. On my old TFT monitor, this would
take about 30 seconds. It's maximum was 1024x768 (I know, it's old...)
So try leaving it a little longer. Does that solve your problem?
Beyond that we're looking at xorg.conf tweaks and that puts you in a world
of pain, assuming you aren't all that familiar with linux.
