Compared to fluxbox, xfce, and enlightenment - both gnome and kde are
hogs.  Just the file managers in both gnome and kde require more RAM
than fluxbox, xfce, and enlightenment.    Didn't intend to portray
Gnome unfairly, it's just a fact that Gnome and KDE are very large
desktop environments and have largely increased RAM needs to function
well.

But the only way to know if you get the performance you want is to
give it a try.
