Just as Martin took exception to this earlier, so do I. Linux is different.
Power users gravitate towards distributions targeted at power users like
Gentoo because there are vast numbers of the packages they want to use. I
foresight gets even half of the emacs modes gentoo has packaged, I'd be
mighty impressed, because noone wants to package these. If it packaged all
of the development tools gentoo does, it would become a developer
distribution rather than a newbie distribution.

Set your eyes on your target market and hope you don't alienate everything
else too much. You are going to alienate power users because you don't
provide the tools they need, but you can keep your mother happy because all
she wants to do is read email and browse the web.

I think I already did describe what most people want to do (and how
foresight serves them) in my earlier mail which you decided was off topic.
