i wonder why that happens though.
what makes those people feel like their hands are being tied.

this statement is in direct contradiction to the conclusion that can be
drwn from this:

namely: because it's linux it will always be flexible, no matter what we
do.

well, aparently there is a group of people who does not feel that way.

this may relate to the gnome/kde discussion where people claim that kde
is more configurable than gnome.

anyways, my point is, 
while really advanced users will never have a problem, (they will always
be able to edit config files or cook their own versions of a package),
intermediate users may not be aware of the possibilities to change
things or find config files to complicated

i think this includes especially windows power users who are new to linux.
