Despite my enthusiasm for SMF, I was sincerely hoping to go with Jive for
Foresight for many of the reasons we have already discussed. However, since
we're going with SMF, I know I can work more on the development and
customization end, too. Since a lot of the styling work (leveraging both
CSS and PHP) for the rPath Forum is still fresh on my mind, I'll be glad to
work on the theme for SMF, borrowing the styling from the rest of the new
website.
Also, I have my GeSHi code highlighting patch that should be a helpful
addition. It is offered as an SMF-interface-managed mod, but in the
appliance model, it worked better as a patch for me because of file
ownerships. I shadowed "smf" for the rPath Forum to add the patch, and I
would need to shadow it for Foresight to do the same thing so that I don't
break my redistribution agreement with Simple Machines LLC under their
license (I need to keep my original "smf" package representing the software
exactly as it is provided from their site). There may be other features we
could add, too, if anyone has ideas; many developers have shared mods and
such at simplemachines.org.
Are we launching the forum simultaneous with the rest of the website, or can
I have this weekend to work on it?
