From the brief time I spent playing with both, Jive gave me less grief
and a better gut feeling. In particular I like the admin interface, the
feeds, polls, questions and tagging. On the down side it lacks some
"normal" forum features like sticky threads, splitting threads and
sorting is always by last modified. There are also little things that
bug me. To view multiple tags at once you need to change the URL by hand
and searches don't contain matching tags at all.

While playing with Jive I macgyvered a way to run it under a different
app-server and a theme so getting it running and themed shouldn't be a
problem.

Despite my gut preferring Jive I'd be fine with using either too.
